It's week two and I have posted the timeline and the story board. The story board outlines the stories we agreed on. I have given the purpose for each story so you know why you are writing it, photographing it or drawing it.The story board also gives you a word limit as I don't want you writing hundreds of words when the story can be summarised in a few lines.
This week your priorities are familarising yourself with what you are responsible for. Once you are I imagine you will start thinking about who you need to interview for your story. Is it the principals, your peers, teachers, school council presidents or someone else in the community?
Think about what will be the angle of your story. Remember the uniform and logo have been covered so what updates are you going to give?
When writing remember in a story the Who, What, How and When rule. If you are not familiar with this we can discuss it when we meet later this week.
Remember to keep your writing punchy, light and interesting. Use simple words rather than fancy pants words We want to hook our readers in the very first line and keep 'em reading till the end. I want to see a bit of heart and soul and humour in this. This can be hard when you are relaying facts as we also want our community to feel informed.
Images and photograhy - I really want you to be creative. I love the idea of the primary students getting out there with toy digger trucks and hard hats etc.
Your priorties this week should be:
familiarising yourself with the timeline - know when content due, know final sign-off dates
familiarising yourself with what you are responsible for
making contact with people who are supporting your story
taking time to think about your story - structure, angles, who to interview, possible accompanying images
making interview times
If you have any questions, please email me or phone me on 0407 529 725. Remember this is supposed to be fun, so please enjoy it. For me I see it as a wonderful opportunity to work with a great bunch of kids who are full of energy and ideas to produce a fantastic newsletter. I am truly looking forward to working with you.
